Das schwedisch/finnische Quartett LAAKSO sorgte für Furore in Clubs und Medien, nachdem ihr Debutalbum "I miss you, I´m pregnant" erschien. Überwältigend, wie die knapp zwanzigjährigen derart erhaben und souverän musikalische Landschaften erschaffen, die Sehnsüchte erzeugen und auch erfüllen. LAAKSO ist das finnische Wort für Täler, durch die sie uns geleiten: gesäumt von Gebirgen und Hügeln, durchzogen von stillen, tiefen Seen und reißenden Strömen. Für ihren ersten Longplayer gingen LAAKSO im Mai 2003 mit Produzent Jari Haapalainen ins Studio, der sein Talent schon bei The Bear Quartet, Kristofer Aström und Fireside bewiesen hat. Das Resultat ist eine wahre Vielfalt - sphärisch, krachig, beschwingend & verzaubernd, man möchte tanzen, tanzen, tanzen. Allein das bunte Gesangspektrum von Sänger Markus Krunegard bietet alles, was jenseits der Monotonie beheimatet ist. Die Schwermut eines Nick Drake trifft auf Lyrics à la Sonic Youth, verschmolzen mit der Leichtigkeit eines einfach nur schönen Popsongs und der perfekten Dosis Rebellion - und mit einem Lächeln im Gesicht landen wir sanft. Mit einer Ballade im Ohr, so gewaltig, dass sie für immer bleibt.
Laakso entered Christofer Lundqvist's AGM studio in Vollsjö for some lengthy days of production with fellow artic-circle born Jari Haapalainen [Bear Quartet, Fireside, Kristofer Aström & Moneybrother et al..] at the controls. The band recorded 18 tracks on 2 days in a furious tempo, all according to the band and producers ideal of trying to catch the songs in its purity. All songs are recorded live with a minimum of overdubbes.Thirteen astral tracks, twelve in English and one in Finnish - Loista Laakso is a nod to Singer Markus Krunegård's divided roots in Tornedalen, an area with three languages, Swedish, Finnish and Meiki. The sound is imaginative. Think: Nick Drake raised in Finland and born into an American Joy Division - enchanting at one polar, broody at the other. The influences are simple from Violent Femmes, Ultra Bra, Sonic Youth, to Tom Waits, Arto Tiesmaa. An exhaustive list to help you get some way to appreciating the wonder that is Laakso.
